The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate (CEM), discussed the construction of peace and agreed to maintain communication to achieve the development of the country, as well as promote a voluntary disarmament program for the protection of communities.
After the 117th Plenary Assembly of the CEM, which was held at its headquarters in Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico, Sheinbaum Pardo explained that in the institutional meeting with the bishops, they coordinated for the construction of peace in various states, but clarified that the dialogue will be with all sectors.
He added that together with the Church they are pursuing a voluntary disarmament program, coordinating efforts with the Ministry of the Interior.

It is worth mentioning that When Sheinbaum was head of government, she promoted a voluntary disarmament program in Mexico City with modules in the atriums of the churches of the 16 mayoralties. as well as in public squares.
“Well obviously each person in their own framework, recognizing our Constitution, but you can always find spaces for coordination,” commented Sheinbaum when asked if there will be coordination with the CEM.
Later, on social networks, the Chief Executive thanked the CEM for the invitation and for discussing the construction of peace and development.
In this regard, the CEM assured that the dialogue with Sheinbaum was frank and constructive, since they presented topics such as insecurity, accompaniment to mothers searching for missing persons, strengthening the rule of law and preserving the balance between the powers of the nation.

“We also express the need to build bridges of dialogue that favor national unity, essential element to achieve the peace and comprehensive development that our country longs for. Without unity there is no peace or progress,” he said in a press release.
In the Plenary Assembly, bishops of the country expressed their concern about the violence that affects their communities, as well as the devastation of natural resources, and, although they recognized the actions implemented by the authorities, they also expressed the need “for more effective strategies for the disarmament of criminal groups and the protection of our communities.”
