- Given the high interest rates that credits currently have in Mexico, economics specialists recommend avoiding making unnecessary expenses with credit cards within the framework of El Buen Fin, since if mishandled they can become severe economic problems.
- Sergio Negrete Cárdenas, professor at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM), recommended avoiding the use of loans with high interest rates as much as possible, some exceeding 80 percent.
- The best option when opening a loan is to do it at a fixed rate, since variable rates adjust to the changes maintained by the Bank of Mexico, and this becomes an additional risk, so you must read the “fine print” carefully. ”, and avoid variable rate credits.
- Miguel Turriza, vice president of the National Federation of Economists, explained that interest implies that the balance does not go down in the account statement when people opt for the minimum payments. “We could continue paying for the product for years and never pay it off.”
- Buying via credit card is an expensive mechanism and should undoubtedly only be considered as a complementary tool for some type of financial emergency, explained Turriza.
- Specialists consider that it is always good to have credit cards, as this also improves a person’s credit history; however, their use should only be considered for emergent unforeseen expenses, such as an unscheduled emergency trip, the payment of a hospital or the purchase of an essential household appliance that suddenly broke down.
