A 28-year-old paraglider was killed on Friday November 15 in the Mont-Blanc massif while taking off from the summit of Aiguille Verte (Haute-Savoie), reports France Bleu Pays de Savoie.
The young man, originally from Isère, fell in the area of the Nant blanc glacier, “obviously due to a problem during takeoff”according to the boss of the Chamonix high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM), Etienne Rolland. It was the victim’s companion, still at the summit at the time of the accident, who raised the alarm.
When help arrived – a Dragon 74 helicopter, the gendarmes and the medical team from the Mont-Blanc hospitals – the paraglider was already dead. An investigation has been opened to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
