Previous reports revealed that there was a new feature being worked on by Threads, Meta’s application. Now, some users report that they can add locations to their uploads.
For your information, this is the first time Threads has asked users to share their location details. Quoted from EngadgetWednesday (2/10/2024), this feature is similar to the one on Instagram.
After granting location access permission, users will see a list of places around you that can be added to the upload. Users can also search for places manually.
What’s funny, some users are jokingly marking their location as “hell” in Threads.
According to the explanation in the application, Meta plans to use this location sharing feature to display content that is more appropriate to the place around the user.
The presence of this additional capability is said to improve the Threads search feature, which has so far been more useful for following the latest news or events that are currently happening.
Apart from that, this feature will also likely play a big role when Meta starts placing advertisements in the Threads application. Mark Zuckerberg previously stated that advertising would appear after this application grew bigger.
By sharing location, Meta can get important data to show ads that are more relevant to users. Currently, the location sharing feature is still in the rolling out phase and is not yet available to all users.
Some users reported this feature appeared briefly in the Threads app, but then disappeared. For the web version, this feature is also not yet visible. Therefore, it is interesting to wait for this feature to officially appear.
