Rami Malek has after Mr. Robot (2015–2019) and his much-discussed appearance in Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) once again seized a major leading role. In the vicious spy thriller The Amateur (2025) he plays a decoder for the CIA who goes through a deep valley when his wife dies in a terrorist attack. The trailer can now be seen.
World turned upside down
Charlie Heller does his coding work for the intelligence service in a basement office and, despite his exciting job, leads a fairly secluded life. That changes when his lover becomes the victim of an attack in London. The battle has now become personal, and Charlie will do everything he can to find those responsible and bring them to order.
Weakness?
It is certainly not an open question that his revenge mission will be successful: “I don’t think you would beat a nun in a game of arm wrestling,” Malek is told when he brings up the situation to one of his managers. Because he is not taken seriously, he takes the law into his own hands, with all the consequences that entails.
In addition to Malek, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan, Outlander star Caitríona Balfe, Julianne Nicholson, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jon Bernthal (The Punisher) and Laurence Fishburne appear in the expected theatrical release. Slow Horses creator James Hawes is directing.
