A serious incident occurred Thursday at Nanterre-Université station, on RER line A. Around 1:30 p.m., a passenger was knocked off balance and hit by a train arriving at the platform during an intervention by RATP security officers. The victim, seriously injured, was taken to hospital. His vital prognosis is not in jeopardy, several concordant sources have confirmed.
In a press release, the RATP indicated that “during an intervention by a security team, an individual was unbalanced and struck by a train in circumstances which remain to be established”. Following this incident, an investigation into attempted homicide was opened, and the Ile-de-France network brigade (BRF) was put in charge. The Nanterre public prosecutor’s office specified that police custody was in progress.
Opening of an internal investigation
Jean Castex, CEO of RATP, reacted by asking “that an internal investigation be immediately opened in collaboration and transparency with the associations representing users who sit on the RATP Board of Directors”. A victim assistance cell was also activated.
The incident led to an interruption of traffic between La Défense and Nanterre-Ville for part of the afternoon, disrupting many users. The precise circumstances of the intervention of the agents and the fall of the victim remain unclear for the moment. The results of ongoing investigations should clarify the facts.
