All American civilian flights to Haiti are banned for a month, the federal aviation regulator (FAA) announced Tuesday after a plane from a low-cost American company came under fire Monday while landing in Port -au-Prince.

In a very brief statement, the FAA issued a notice of prohibition for “United States civil aviation operations in the territory and airspace of Haiti below 10,000 feet for a period of 30 days.”
Canada, for its part, invites its citizens to avoid all essential travel to Haiti due to the violence plaguing the country.
The Canadian government also updated its travel advisories on Tuesday to indicate that a state of emergency is in effect across the country “due to continued violence committed by gangs.”
The airport of the capital Port-aux-Prince, Toussaint-Louverture International Airport, has suspended all its operations until November 18, 2024, it is specified.
