The 10-year-old Canadian boy is doing your part to save the planet by collecting thousands of aluminum rings and recycling them.
Jace Weberof Ontario, Canada broke the record for the largest number of one-year-old aluminum rings collected for recycling, weighing an incredible 1,654.70 kg (3,648 pounds).
Jace, now known as “the boy with the cans”, began collecting aluminum rings in August 2022 with the goal of collecting and recycling enough to donate the money earned to those in need.
The collection surpassed his and his parents’ imagination and reached a record size. Jace’s project started because of a video he saw on the platform Youtubein it a man shared his story about collecting cans over many years with the intention of dedicating it to charity.
“That inspired me,” the boy explains, “I knew it was something small I could do and that it could make a difference if I managed to collect enough cans.”
The young man began collecting rings of aluminum of their close surroundings such as their home, that of their relatives, trips, camps, etc. News of his initiative soon spread, and friends and family contributed to the cause.
Once with the collection, Jace explains the process to follow:
“First you take the aluminum rings to the scrapyard, they weigh them on the scale and they give you about $0.7 per pound. “Then they go to a foundry and are burned, then they can be used for new aluminum items and so on.”
Excited, Weber He realizes that he doesn’t plan to stop: “I have decided to collect rings for the rest of my life.” In fact, your next goal is to contribute to your school’s fundraising goal for a new accessible playground.
