Even if Donald Trump had warned that he would involve Elon Musk in the administration in Washington if he was elected, the appointment of the owner of ‘State, raises a media specialist.
“We are rewarding a loyalist who still injected 132 million US dollars into Mr. Trump’s campaign over the last two, three months,” points out Patrick White, professor at the UQAM Media School.
Mr. White also asked the question during his interview with the bulletin The 8:30 p.m. on the airwaves of LCN, to know what will the richest man in the world do with his 600 million users on X?
“Should we put our assets in a trust as we would in Canada or Quebec?” he asks. “It’s still going to be complicated.”
Nevertheless, the professor at UQAM recognizes that the appointment of the “largest donor” to the Republican campaign is “a masterstroke” from Donald Trump which will certainly please his electorate.
“Musk will have to reform the American administration, and therefore the efficiency of the American government, which means layoffs,” he explains. There is already talk of moving the American environmental agency from Washington. We are already talking about abolishing the Ministry of National Education, so very, very difficult decisions to come for the management of the federal government.
Obviously, these cuts to government will satisfy Republicans who want less government presence, but at the risk of losing services that are dear to other Americans, notes Mr. White.
“We’re going to cut randomly, that’s what’s frustrating. When we talk about cutting national education, for example, we are going to cut left, right, in the environment, in many federal government measures,” he mentions.
But the appointment of all these strong heads in Washington could also bring certain challenges.
“It will be, I would say, very difficult equals to manage,” continues the guest. There will inevitably be a collision.”
