44 celebrities will leave the United States with the return of Trump? Caution

What do Leonardo DiCaprio, Taylor Swift, Hillary Clinton, Bill Gates and George Soros have in common? All these American personalities reportedly declared that they would leave the country in the event of Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election, a victory which ultimately took place. In any case, this is what we should understand from a list circulating on social networks.

Many videos posted on Instagram, X or TikTok include this list which has just been “revealed” to the general public. On billionaire Elon Musk’s platform, one of them, posted Friday, has already had more than 2 million views.

FAKE OFF

This list is mostly not based on any concrete element. Many people cited in these videos have never expressed the fact that they would leave the United States if Donald Trump wins. 20 Minutes was, for example, unable to find traces of declarations of this type for Leonardo DiCaprio, Taylor Swift, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez or even Eminem.

Before circulating among French-speaking Internet users, this directory was first shared in English. The list was most likely popularized by American masculinist influencer Andrew Tate, a supporter of Donald Trump. During a recent live, the latter actually listed 43 names of celebrities who would have made this type of statement. Posted on X and accumulating more than 5 million views, the extract contains essentially the same names as those circulating in French.

The famous list is also circulating among English-speaking Internet users, like here among the masculinist Andrew Tate.

Sometimes real statements

If a large number of the celebrities cited in these lists have never expressed their wish to leave the United States in the event of a Republican victory, some have been able to make this type of declaration in the past. But these statements – when they are authentic – date back largely to Donald Trump’s first presidential campaign, before November 8, 2016.

We can notably cite Miley Cyrus, who for example declared in a post on Instagram in March 2016 “I’m moving if (Donald Trump) is my president! “. More recently, we can cite the singer Cher and the rocker Bruce Springsteen, who made this type of statement in the context of the race for the White House for 2024.
