The prosecution had requested one year in prison and eighteen months of probation during the hearing in mid-October in Nice. This Tuesday, former AS Monaco captain and French international Wissam Ben Yedder was finally sentenced to two years in prison for sexual assault while drunk.
The facts date back to last September: The former Toulouse resident was drinking in his car in a parking lot near a beach below his home in Cap-d’Ail, on the outskirts of Monaco. There, he made friends with a group of young people, three boys who knew him and two more suspicious girls. He alternated kindness and aggression, said the victim, aged 23, explaining that she ended up agreeing, “out of fear”, to get into the player’s car, who drove her against her will into the parking lot of her residence.
Fine of 5,000 euros and compensation for the victim
There, he caressed the young woman’s thigh, who pushed him away, then masturbated with one hand while trying with the other to attract him to kiss him. Initially paralyzed, the victim managed to open the car door and escape. She notified the police, who arrested the player at his home.
In addition to his two-year suspended prison sentence, Wissam Ben Yedder, who, during the trial said he did not remember anything, received a fine of 5,000 euros, a six-month license suspension, ‘an obligation of care and compensation for the victim. Since the end of his contract last June with ASM, Ben Yedder had not found a club.
