Liputan6.com, Seoul – The LG Electronics (LG) product brand is well known to the Indonesian people. Starting from refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, there are a number of products made by LG that are widely used globally, including Indonesia.
It turns out, one of these products is supplied from LG’s sophisticated and smart factory located in Changwon, South Korea.
Liputan6.com together with several other media from Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam had the opportunity to directly visit the LG factory in Changwon, Seoul, South Korea on 4-8 November 2024.
The LG Smart Park factory complex is LG’s production base, which is not just an ordinary factory. As the name suggests, a Smart factory is an intelligent factory designed to produce through a process based on artificial intelligence big data. Apart from relying on the role of human workers, which of course still exists.
“LG Smart Park is a real illustration of our strong commitment to adopting various revolutionary technologies as a global leader in the household electronic device market,” said Jeongyon Kim, Leader of H&A Smart Park exhibition Operation Part in Seoul.
He said, LG presented a blueprint for the company’s future in providing various products that prioritize attention to environmental, economic and labor aspects.
When seen directly, this very spacious factory consisting of several floors truly depicts a very sophisticated and efficient electronic product production process.
Apart from relying on hundreds of human workers, this factory also relies on production robots which do parts of the work that are difficult for humans or require more skills.
Citing LG’s explanation, on the production line, the robotic arm easily lifts and installs large refrigerator doors weighing more than 20 kg (44 lbs) onto the main body of various LG refrigerator models.
Robotic arms perform demanding and repetitive tasks, such as welding and tightening screws, with incredible speed and consistency.
By using 3D vision recognition technology, robots can perform tasks that require a high level of precision, such as the process of installing refrigerator doors.
As a result of the robots’ wide range of capabilities, workers at LG Smart Park can concentrate more on product completion and improving product quality, which can be achieved through less physically tiring work such as monitoring and controlling production lines, or supervising robot operations.
LG Smart Park can produce up to 58 different models of household appliances on one production line.
Digital Twin Technology
Equipped with ‘Digital Twin’ technology recreates the production environment in virtual reality, allowing the simulation of various scenarios in real time and enabling factory staff to address problems early.
The Digital Twin analyzes data every 30 seconds, and accurately predicts and notifies workers of potential problems (such as material shortages on the production line) that may occur in the next 10 minutes.
This capability helps ensure a reliable and timely supply of spare parts. The implementation of Digital Twin reduces returns of defective products while strengthening overall quality competitiveness 1 and production efficiency.
