Nintendo Switch 2 Confirms Backward Compatibility, Old Games Can Still Be Played

Quoting information from EngadgetThursday (7/11/2024), Nintedo confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have the feature backward compability. This means the console plays first generation Nintendo Switch game titles.

Apart from that, the Japanese company also revealed that the Nintendo Switch Online service will be available on the new generation console. So, players can continue their game seamlessly, regardless of the device used.

It was also stated that the NES, SNES and Game Boy game libraries can also be accessed on the new console.

Nintendo’s decision to present this new feature is said to be a strategic step for the company to foster relationships with its users.

By utilizing Nintendo Accounts, companies can establish ongoing connections with gamers on consoles of every generation.

Even though we have revealed new features, information about the release date and specifications of Switch 2 has not been announced. Regarding this, Nintendo promised to share more information about the new console in the future.

Previously, based on financial reports at the end of last year, the new Switch would be announced no later than April 2025.

Therefore, there is a possibility that information about this device will not be revealed in the near future. However, it is not impossible, Nintendo has plans to reveal it first, before officially releasing it later.
