The fate of the iPhone 16 series in Indonesia seems to have a glimmer of hope, after news emerged that the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) recently received Apple’s letter.
This was revealed directly by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Eko SA Cahyanto, saying that Apple management asked for time to meet directly with the Minister of Industry (Menperin), Agus Gumiwang Kartasasminta.
“Yes, that’s right, we have received a letter from Apple and the Minister of Industry has received it. They want to meet and explain directly to the Minister,” said Eko, as quoted from Liputan6.com BusinessTuesday (5/11/2024).
It was stated that the meeting between the US technology giant and the Minister of Industry was to discuss further plans for selling the iPhone 16 in Indonesia.
Until now, the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max cannot be marketed in Indonesia because they are hampered by Domestic Component Level (TKDN) requirements.
The TKDN requirements must be met by every electronic device, including smartphones and tablets, in accordance with Minister of Industry Regulation Number 29/2017.
