Previously, iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 users running iOS 18.1 would find Siri’s new, more attractive appearance with edge light animation.
Even though its appearance has changed, Siri itself has not actually experienced a significant increase in intelligence or capabilities.
This Siri update is part of the rollout of Apple Intelligence available on devices supporting the latest iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
Quoting 9to5mac, Tuesday (5/11/2024), Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1 currently only supports English.
However, the plan is that this feature will support more English, which is scheduled to appear in iOS 18.2, and other languages in 2025.
If the Apple Intelligence feature is not activated, Siri will retain its old orb appearance. However, with Apple Intelligence, users will get a new display with glowing animations that respond to the user’s voice.
The new look is the main update, but there are some other minor changes. First, users can double-tap the home indicator to type when unable to speak.
Apple also improved Siri’s voice synthesis to make it sound more natural. Siri is now also better at understanding unclear questions or less clearly spoken words.
For example, if you mispronounce a question, Siri will be more likely to understand what you meant.
Additionally, Siri now has deeper knowledge of Apple device user manuals, so it can provide guidance directly from Apple’s official documentation.
