Unlike Intel processor media review kits, which are usually provided in special edition packages, AMD has prepared almost a complete set of platforms for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, including MSI MPG X870E CARBON WIFI motherboard, G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB memory and Samsung 990 PRO SSD, let’s take a look!
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Processor
The outer box continues the visual design of the Ryzen 9000 series, but the originally more three-dimensional iron gray block has been changed to a brighter and flat silver gray. The upper left corner emphasizes that this processor specifically uses AMD 3D V-Cache technology. The processor body is also an AM5 package covered with a uniquely shaped IHS metal cover, and no air-cooling radiator is attached.
MSI MPG X870E CARBON WIFI motherboard
The MPG series belongs to MSI’s mid-to-high-end product line. The X870 series products at this level use the X870E chipset with rich I/O configurations and launch the MPG X870E CARBON WIFI motherboard.
MPG X870E CARBON WIFI uses an 8-layer PCB made of 2 oz thick copper foil and a Duet Rail power supply solution. It is equipped with an 18-phase 110A Smart Power Stage (SPS) for the CPU core and 2 phases for SoC + 1 Phase supplied to Misc.
The heat dissipation of the power supply components uses direct contact with heat pipes, two large sandblasted and black anodized aluminum extruded heat sinks are connected in series, and then embellished with the dragon-shaped totem of Mystic Light RGB lighting effect.
The heat sink of the M.2 device is divided into an independent one for the PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slot, and the other three sets of M.2 slots share a large heat sink. These heat sinks all feature the EZ M.2 Shield Frozr II design and can be removed by simply pressing the switch pressure plate on the side. There is also an EZ M.2 Clip II snap buckle on the slot for easy fixing of M.2 devices.
The graphics card slot has an EZ PCIe quick-release button. Press it to unlock the slot latch, and it will automatically lock when the graphics card is installed.
The USB on the I/O backplane all starts at 10 Gbps, including up to 9 USB Type-A and 2 USB Type-C, and there are 2 sets of 40 Gbps USB4 provided by ASMedia Xiangshuo ASM4242 controller.
There are two wired networks, the Realtek 8126 chip provides 5 Gbps LAN and the Realtek 8125 chip provides 2.5 Gbps LAN. The wireless network uses the Qualcomm NCM865 chip to provide Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 with a 320 MHz signal bandwidth.
G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB Memory
AMD still believes that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor will reach peak performance when the memory operates at 6000 MT/s, so it has chosen this DDR5-6000 memory module with lower latency.
The memory model provided by G.Skill is Trident Z5 Neo RGB Flame Blade, model F5-6000J2836G16GX2-TZ5NRW. It uses a white painted metal heat sink and is decorated with curved streamlines and black hairline decorative panels. However, The author personally thinks that the silver heat sink launched earlier has a more three-dimensional effect and looks much better.
This DDR5-6000 module has a single capacity of 16GB. According to AMD EXPO parameters, it can operate at 1.4 V with a delay timing of 28-36-36-96. CL 28 can be said to be a very low delay timing in DDR5, which helps to provide Better gaming performance.
Samsung Samsung 990 PRO SSD
Samsung 990 PRO SSD has been launched for nearly 2 years and can achieve 7450 MB/s sequential read and 1.2 million IOPS random access performance on the AMD platform. For details, please refer to the review on this site.
