In the document, signed by the President Claudia Sheinbaumwhich was published in the “Official Gazette of the Federation” by the Ministry of Economy, ensures that Vehicles may be imported by residents of the northern border strip:
- Whose model year is five to nine years prior to the year in which the import is made, establishing a tariff on the value of the vehicle of 1 percent.
- Vehicles whose model year is 10 years prior to the year in which it is imported will pay a tariff of 10% on the value of the vehicle..
What cars cannot be imported?
It was noted that: “Used vehicles whose circulation is restricted or prohibited in the country of origin, due to their characteristics or for technical reasons, cannot be definitively imported into the national territory.”.
“When they do not comply with the physical-mechanical or environmental protection conditions, in accordance with the applicable provisions, or when the vehicle has been reported stolen”.

On Monday night, the “Decree regulating the definitive importation of used vehicles” was published in the “Official Gazette of the Federation”by which the government intends to “give legal security to importers and owners of these used vehicles regarding the legal stay and possession of these to circulate in national territory.”
