Halloween may be over, but horror season is far from over. And if it were up to Rotten Tomatoes, we might even have ‘one of the best horrors of 2024’! Heretic (2024) starring Hugh Grant achieves an impressive first score.
Deadly cat and mouse game
In Heretic from film studio A24, two young missionaries are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door. Led by the devilish Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant), the two ladies become entangled in his deadly cat-and-mouse game.
Impressive score
That already sounds pretty exciting, but according to Rotten Tomatoes it is Heretic really nerve-wracking and scary. The film is already one of the highest-rated horror films of the year, based on its 94% Certified Fresh score from over 90 reviews.

Grant’s performance
The critics praise Heretic especially for Grant’s performance. They are also enthusiastic about the way the directors, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, approached the story. In the Netherlands, horror films are no longer available 21 november to be seen in cinemas.
Not the very best
With the score and the rave reviews it stands Heretic together with Oddity (2024) tops the top 50 horror films on Rotten Tomatoes. The only movie that did better was Late Night with the Devil (2023). This horror achieved 97%.
