The Christmas season is just around the corner and, with it, come significant expenses, including the purchase of gifts and the payment of services, in addition to the fact that at the end of the year comes the January slope. For this reason, the bonus represents for many workers a great cushion in their personal financial activity.
According to the laws of the nation, the bonus, a sum that employers give to employees in recognition of their effort, must be given before December 20.
The bonus is a labor right in Mexico, as established by the Federal Labor Law (LFT), however, any person who carries out any economic activity also has responsibilities before the Tax Administration Service (SAT).
For this reason, in some cases the bonus generates taxes that must be paid to the institution.
Which people must pay taxes to the SAT for their bonus?
The Federal Labor Law establishes that formal workers must receive, as a bonus, 15 days of salary.
According to the official website of the Federal Attorney for the Defense of Labor (It will benefit), The people who must be held accountable for taxes generated are those who work in the formal sector and receive an amount equal to or greater than 30 days of minimum wage.
The amount of 30 days of minimum wage is equivalent to 7 thousand 468 pesos in 2024 (248.93 pesos per day) generally in Mexican territory, although in the Northern Border Free Zone a higher amount is received per working day.
