A 10-year-old girl died in the United Kingdom after being bitten by her pet last Friday.
Authorities intervened around 4:15 p.m. Friday following the event which occurred inside a family home located in the Malton area of northern England, North Yorkshire Police said on its page. Facebook.
When paramedics arrived, they pronounced the young girl, Savannah Bentham, dead following a bite from her dog.
The animal was locked in a vehicle by family members after the incident and was subsequently seized by authorities.
“Given the circumstances of the incident, the dog will be euthanized,” North Yorkshire Police said on its Facebook page.
The victim’s family reacted in a press release on Monday, indicating that they were still in shock following the events.
“We are devastated by what happened in Savannah,” we read. We can’t believe we lost our wonderful daughter who we loved so much.”
“We want to thank everyone for their support and kindness as we process this loss,” it added. We ask that our family’s privacy be respected as we grieve for Savannah.”
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances that led to this bite.
