London police said on Sunday that they had transmitted to the prosecutor’s office elements of their investigation into accusations of rape and sexual assault made by several women and targeting British actor Russell Brand. “A file of evidence has now been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service”, which must now decide on a possible charge, police said on Sunday, confirming information from the Sunday Times.
In September 2023, the Sunday Times and Channel 4 television had revealed the accusations of four women against the provocative comedian who became a widely followed anti-establishment influencer on social networks, one concerning rape and the others of sexual assault and psychological violence. The London police then indicated that they had received “a number of accusations” of sexual assault, relating to “non-recent” facts which allegedly occurred between 2006 and 2013. Russell Brand had notably been during this period a radio presenter on the BBC.
A “very, very wanton” period, according to Russell Brand
Russell Brand has always denied the accusations, claiming to have only had consensual relationships, although he admitted to having been at one time “very, very wanton”.
During his career as a comedian, on television and in the cinema, in the United Kingdom then in the United States, Russell Brand was noted for his repeated escapades, his former addiction to alcohol and heroin, his brief marriage to pop singer Katy Perry and his tendency to brag about his many female conquests.
