Peso: The Mexican currency has been down for three weeks against the dollar

The Mexican currency in international markets concluded yesterday around 20.29 pesos per dollar, which meant a depreciation of 34 cents compared to the previous Friday.according to information from Bloomberg.

With this result, the exchange rate has three consecutive weeks of losses against the greenback, accumulating a depreciation of one peso and three cents in said period.

The possibility that Donald Trump will win the presidential elections on November 5 has increased pressures on the exchange rate. In addition, the Republican Party is expected to win the majority in both chambers, which would give Trump the ease of making changes in laws to the detriment of Mexico.

During the week, the most depreciated currencies against the dollar were: the Brazilian real with 2.9%, the Colombian peso with 2.4%, the Mexican peso with 1.7%, the Chilean peso with 1.4% and the Swedish crown with 1.2 percent.

The retail dollar ended yesterday at 20.77 pesos on sale at the counters of CitiBanamex branches, 1.27% or 26 cents above last week’s close.

The capital market closed the week with widespread losses globally. The losses are due to the negative quarterly results of several major US broadcasters, notably: Microsoft, Meta and Apple.

In Mexico, the BMV Prices and Quotations Index closed the week with a loss of 2.24 percent.
