The magistrate of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF), Reyes Rodríguez Mondragón, rectified and reported that he will continue in his position until 2027, by taking advantage of the possibility that the reform of the Judiciary (PJ) gives him.
Rodríguez Mondragón concluded his eight-year term as a TEPJF magistrate yesterday, but with the judicial reform he will be able to extend his term for three more years.
In a letter, the magistrate explained that in a context of polarization, the Electoral Tribunal has the responsibility of resolving controversies in the electoral process derived from the judicial reform.
“Resigning from the magistracy in the Superior Chamber of the Court at this juncture does not contribute to that responsibility, and on the contrary, would contribute to the scenario of uncertainty and instability of a collegiate body, already incomplete. Having reflected on the above, I came to the conclusion that at this moment the institutionally responsible thing is to continue in the exercise of the position as a magistrate.”
On September 11, before the Senate of the Republic approved the reforms to the Constitution to elect ministers, magistrates and judges by popular vote, Rodríguez Mondragón said that he would not accept the extension of his term; However, on social network X, the magistrate explained that the situation poses unprecedented challenges.
