Serious and solid winner of Union Berlin (3-0) on their lawn Saturday afternoon, Bayern Munich set sail at the top of the Bundesliga after Leipzig’s defeat at Dortmund in the evening (2-1).
For Vincent Kompany’s men, good news did not come alone on Saturday. Three hours after taking three points against Union Berlin, they learned of the RB’s defeat on the pitch of a BVB decimated by injuries.
On the evening of the 9th day of the German championship, the Munich residents are last in the German championship undefeated, with seven victories and two draws. They total 23 points and now occupy the comfortable leader’s seat in the Bundesliga with three points ahead of RB Leipzig (20).
The gap is even greater on the other pursuers, since the reigning German champion, Bayer Leverkusen, held to a draw on Friday evening at home against Stuttgart, is already 7 points behind Bayern, just like Borussia Dortmund (16 points each).
The two clubs share 4th place and cede the third step of the podium to Eintracht Frankfurt (17) of Dino Toppmöller, who crushed the red lantern Bochum (7-2), with a double from Frenchman Hugo Ekitiké.
After the slap received in Barcelona in the Champions League (4-1), the Munich players went on to a third match without conceding a goal (5-0 in Bochum, 4-0 in Mainz, 3-0 against Berlin) on Saturday. Reassuring defensive stability before hosting Benfica in C1, with the obligation to win, because they only have 3 points in the premier competition of European football, and remain on two setbacks away to Aston Villa (1-0 ) and in Barcelona.
Coman on good momentum
On Saturday, Bayern got on the path to victory after a quarter of an hour of play, with a penalty caused by Michael Olise and converted by Harry Kane. The top scorer in the 2023/24 Bundesliga (36 goals) scored twice in the 51st minute. Between Kane’s two goals, Kingsley Coman doubled the lead for Bayern in the 43rd minute.
The captain of the English selection has already scored 11 goals in nine Bundesliga matches, taking sole lead in the scorers’ ranking. “It was a very good performance from us against a difficult team, very strong defensively, and we made it look quite easy”emphasized Kane after the meeting.
Announced leaving for Saudi Arabia in the summer by some of the press, Coman decided to stay in Munich and lives again this fall in Bavaria, finding the net for the third consecutive match in the Bundesliga (only the second time in his career in Munich). On Saturday, he also matched his performance with an assist for Kane on Bayern’s third goal.
Against Stuttgart (4-0) and Bochum (5-0), he scored the last goal for his team when the fate of the match was already sealed, while on Saturday, he allowed his team to reach the locker room with two goals in advance.
In Dortmund, Nuri Sahin’s Borussia was under pressure after three consecutive defeats away from its base, in Madrid against Real (5-2 after leading 2-0), in Augsburg in the league (2-1) and in Wolfsburg in Cup (1-0 after extra time).
Decimated by injuries, BVB dominated RB Leipzig and logically won 2-1, after being behind on one of the rare occasions in the meeting of the club from eastern Germany concluded by Benjamin Cesko in the 27th minute.
But Maximilian Beier equalized three minutes later, and Serhou Guirassy finally managed to beat Peter Gulacsi to give his team the lead and victory shortly after the hour mark.
