The Japanese car manufacturer Toyota announced on Thursday that it was joining forces with its compatriot NTT, a telecoms giant, to jointly invest 500 billion yen (3.02 billion euros) by 2030 in an assisted autonomous driving eco-system. by artificial intelligence (AI).
The two groups will launch the development of dedicated software next year, which should be operational around 2028 before large-scale deployment two years later, they said in a press release.
They plan to adopt NTT’s next-generation optical and wireless network communications platform to speed up the process.
To promote the development of autonomous driving, “It will become increasingly important to build high-speed, high-quality communications infrastructure and AI infrastructure capable of collecting and processing large amounts of information”explain Toyota and NTT.
According to them, artificial intelligence should make it possible to collect driving data, analyze potential accidents and autonomously control vehicles to avoid collisions.
