This initiative seeks to protect the health of Mexicans by providing tools to detect products that do not meet quality standards.
According to information from Cofepris, irregularities have been recorded in the sale of pain relievers and flu medications, which are highly in demand in the country. Recently, Bayer de México warned about the counterfeiting of some of its most recognized products, such as Cafiaspirina, Aspirina and Tabcin Noche. These counterfeit medications lack the active ingredient, which not only makes them ineffective but also poses a serious risk to the consumer’s health..
To help citizens detect these products, Cofepris offers a series of recommendations. It is crucial to pay attention to certain indicators, such as poor labeling, a physical appearance that does not resemble the original, the absence of a valid health registration, products in poor condition, and any modifications to the packaging. If a medication is suspected, it is essential not to consume it and verify the batch information and expiration date.
Finally, Cofepris warns about the importance of not purchasing medications from unauthorized points of salesuch as street vendors, since they are places prone to the sale of counterfeit products. If someone identifies the sale of fraudulent medications, a report can be filed through the number 800 033 5050 or by accessing the complaints section on the Cofepris website.
