Liputan6.com, Jakarta – WhatsApp continues to innovate to protect users with various security features. Apart from automatic spam detection and security notifications, they are now developing new features to verify links or URLs via Google Search,
Quoted from Android PoliceTuesday (28/10/2024), in the latest update to the WhatsApp application beta version Android 2.24.22.19, this feature is increasingly mature and ready to welcome its official launch.
How the Link Verification Feature Works in WhatsApp
Users simply long press on the link received or sent on WhatsApp. After that, several options will appear such as:
- Open link
- Get link info on Google
Once you select the Get link info on Google option, WhatsApp will take you directly to Google Search, displaying all the information related to the link.
Initially, this feature only appeared on frequently forwarded links, but now it can be used for all types of URLs. This feature is very useful for ensuring you don’t carelessly open suspicious links.
Especially now phishing and online fraud is increasingly widespread, so this link verification feature could be an additional layer of security on WhatsApp.
Previously, WhatsApp introduced a Search on Web option to verify frequently forwarded messages.
With this new update, it is still unclear whether the old option will remain or be replaced. However, these two features actually serve different purposes, so they may go hand in hand
When will this feature be available?
Considering that currently the link verification feature is still in the beta testing stage, information about its presence in the stable version of WhatsApp is not yet known.
However, WhatsApp is usually known to test new features in the beta channel for a short time. Therefore, there is a possibility that this feature will be present in the chat application in the near future.
