“You were always smiling, no matter the situation.” Emotions are running high in the Aveyron rugby community after the death of Loïc Keita. The young man, aged 21 and father of a little boy a few months old, died on Saturday in a car accident near Béziers (Hérault). He had to go to Monaco to play a rugby match with the reserve team of Millau (Aveyron) in Federal B.
The Franco-Ivorian, capable of playing in all positions of the forward pack, had trained at Stade Français, before playing in Chartres and Orléans then signing for Millau. “Loïc was an incredible person, always ready to help others and spread joy around him. His kindness and his smile brightened the days of those who were lucky enough to know him,” explain those close to him who opened an online fundraiser to help his partner.
“By contributing to this pot, we can all together provide valuable support to his family during this difficult period and honor the memory of an exceptional man,” explains SO Millau on his Facebook page. This fund aims to support Loïc’s wife and baby, who left behind a huge void.”
The match was maintained
If most of the Millau players had gone to Monaco by minibus, the young man who did not live in Aveyron had decided to go to Monaco by his own means. He allegedly lost control of his vehicle. According to Free MiddayThe principality club proposed to its Aveyron counterpart to postpone the match. But Millau, already there, preferred to play this meeting in homage to its right pillar.

“As club president, I will never digest the fact of having endorsed a trip with the consequences that we know. But above all I ask the higher authorities of French rugby to carefully assess, in the future, the issues before maintaining matches which remain, despite everything, a simple ball game”, initially regretted the president of SO Millau , Laurent Tabutin.
