The former president of Bolivia has accused the country’s current leader, President Luis Arce, of trying to assassinate him.
The former Bolivian president Evo Morales denounced this Sunday that four hooded men shot at his car when he was addressing his radio show.
“Like every Sunday, we were heading to Lauca Ñ, to carry out our Sunday program, when at the doors of the novena we were intercepted by two vehiclesapparently, Tundras, from which four hooded and black-clad officers with weapons in their hands got out and began shooting,” the former president himself denounced on his Facebook page.
Furthermore, Morales reported in his program that the attackers sought to ambush him and that They shot at the car at least 14 times without causing any injury. His driver, however, was injured.
The former president immediately accused his political heir and successor, Luis Arce, of having ordered the attack. “Arce is going to become the worst president in history, Putting a bullet in a former president is already the last straw,” Morales said.
A political persecution?
Two weeks ago, an order from the Prosecutor’s Office was announced to arrest Morales after refusing to testify due to accusations of alleged abuse of a minor in 2017. Morales assured at the time that the order was part of “political persecution” by Arce.
The Bolivian president and Morales are facing off for control of the divided ruling Movement towards Socialism (MAS) ahead of the 2025 presidential elections.
Morales has accused Arce of lead the country to “economic disaster” and to “build” a court case to remove him from the presidential race. Arce, for his part, accuses his political mentor of “boycotting” his administration to shorten his term for “personal interests.”
We have to wait to obtain more information from the authorities to be able to confirm what happened to former president Evo Morales.
