After Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen, another major celebrity has shown their support for Kamala Harris. Beyoncé herself made an appearance on Friday, October 25, at a meeting of the Democratic candidate in Houston. The global pop star gave a short speech to denounce attacks on women’s rights and in particular their right to abortion in around twenty American states, including her native Texas.

“I’m not here as a celebrity. I’m not here as a politician. I’m here as a motherlaunched the queen of R’n’B who gave the campaign its official anthem with her song Freedom (“Freedom”). A mother who worries about the fate of the world in which my children and all our children live. A world in which we have the freedom to control our bodies.”

Imagine our girls growing up, seeing what is possible without ceilings, without limits. Imagine our grandmothers. Imagine how they feel right now, those who lived to see this historic day.”she told the more than 20,000 people present in the stadium. Beyoncé also spoke to “all the men and women who are in this room watching us across the country (…). We need you.”

Kamala Harris warmly thanked her on stage, before warning the audience. “We are 11 days away from an election that will decide the future of America, including the freedom of all women to make decisions about their bodies.”

The vice-president has no chance of winning in the conservative southern state but she chose it for the symbol, Texas having banned abortion after the Supreme Court ended protection in 2022 federal of this right.
