The “Titanic” actor commented in a video posted on his Instagram that: “We need leaders who are prepared to implement climate policies that help save the planet, and that is why I will vote for Kamala Harris on November 5.”
The US vice president “has been key in implementing the most significant climate action in US history, and under her leadership we will be able to achieve ambitious goals in climate policies that will drive our country’s progress,” he added.
The interpreter in turn criticized the former conservative president (2017-2021) “for denying science”, after withdrawing the country from the Paris Agreements and eliminating fundamental environmental protections.
“Now he has promised the oil and gas industry that he will remove any regulations they want in exchange for a $1 billion donation,” said.
DiCaprio, who did not publicly support Joe Biden in the race for the White House in the last election, joins the carousel of artists calling for the Democratic vote after the US president’s resignation last July.
Los Angeles singer Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, announced that they will vote for Harris.
