Intense Israeli bombardments hit the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold, on Wednesday evening, targeted by seventeen strikes after a call to evacuate several sectors, launched by Israel to residents. According to the Lebanese news agency Ani, these are the most significant bombings in this sector in a month.
According to Ani, six buildings were destroyed in the Laylaki district alone, while the pro-Iranian channel Al-Mayadeen claimed that one of its offices in a district of southern Beirut had been hit.
On the other hand, there was no warning for the strike which hit the Jnah district, in the south of the Lebanese capital. This strike killed one person and injured five others, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
Emmanuel Macron opens a conference on Lebanon this Thursday with the hope of mobilizing the international community to raise at least 400 million dollars requested by the United Nations to help people displaced by the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The head of state’s objective is also to obtain a ceasefire.
Hello everyone. Once again, the editorial staff of 20 Minutes is mobilized to give you all the information on the situation in the Middle East.
On the ground, the results are always particularly tragic. The Israeli offensive launched in Gaza in retaliation for the attack of October 7, 2023 killed at least 42,792 Palestinians, mainly civilians, according to data from the Hamas Ministry of Health, deemed reliable by the UN. The war has caused the displacement of almost all of the territory’s 2.4 million inhabitants. In Israel, the Hamas attack resulted in the deaths of 1,206 people, mostly civilians. And at least 1,552 people have been killed in Lebanon since the start of the Israeli airstrikes campaign on September 23.
