The second season of the anime “The Soliloquy of the Medicine Girl” will be broadcast for two consecutive seasons starting in January 2025

The second season of the anime “The Soliloquy of the Pharmacist Girl” (薬屋のひとりごと) adapted from the light novel of the same name is confirmed to be released in January 2025 and will be broadcast for two consecutive seasons. This animation is exclusively available on Netflix.

The story of this work describes Maomao, a pharmacist from Fireworks Alley in an imaginary oriental country. She was caught by a human trafficker and worked as a maid in the palace. She knew that she was not good-looking, so she just worked silently and waited for her term to expire.

One day, Maomao learned that the princes all died young and that even the princes and princesses who were still alive were seriously ill, and began to investigate the causes of their illnesses. Later, Maomao was informed by the eunuch Renshi about his talent for researching drugs and poisons and his resistance to poisons, and was appointed as a female official to test poisons for his superior concubines. However, the more incidents Maomao investigates, the more true the power struggle becomes apparent… and the second season will focus on the changes in the harem power after Concubine Yuye became pregnant.

It was originally a harem mystery light novel of the same name by Hinata Natsu. When it was serialized on the creative platform “Become a Novelist” in 2011, it was well received by readers. In 2012, the book version was launched by the publishing house Housewife’s Friends. The manga version is illustrated by NEKOKURAGE (published by Square Enix). There is also an extended comic “The Whispering of the Medicine House Girl ~The Cat’s Harem Puzzle Solving Notebook~” (published by Shogakukan), illustrated by Sanoji Kurata.
