Jérémie Assous, Gérard Depardieu’s lawyer, defended his client during an intervention on BFMTV this Tuesday. He acknowledged that the actor had indeed made the obscene remarks with which he is accused, but insisted that they were part of a “work of fiction”.
According to him, “Complément d’investigation” misled the public by presenting it as an investigative documentary, when it was filming directed by Yann Moix. Jérémie Assous denounced an “illicit montage” which would have misled spectators.
Scenes designed in a fictional setting
During his intervention, Gérard Depardieu’s lawyer explained that, for the producer, these scenes were always conceived in a fictional framework, and not as a documentary sequence. He accuses France Télévisions of having “sold these images as information”, thus manipulating public perception.
For Jérémie Assous, the montage produced by “Complément d’investigation” presents a work of fiction as if it were a real scene, which fueled the controversy around the actor’s comments.
A damning bailiff’s report
A bailiff’s report, published yesterday by The Parisianhowever, provided damning evidence against the actor. This report confirmed that Gérard Depardieu’s comments were directly addressed to the little girl, contrary to the actor’s defense which had suggested that he was not speaking directly to her. This revelation was confirmed by several other media, complicating the actor’s line of defense.
Furthermore, Gérard Depardieu is involved in another legal proceeding for alleged rape and sexual assault on actress Charlotte Arnould. His trial for these facts is due to open on October 28 before the Paris criminal court.
