The four finalists for the Goncourt, the most prestigious French literary prize, were revealed this Tuesday, October 22, 2024 in Bucharest during a press conference at the National Museum of Romanian Literature. The grand “final” will be held on November 4, 2024 at the Drouant restaurant in Paris, as tradition dictates.
The works were selected Jacarandaby Gail Faye, Hourisby Kamel Daoud, Madelaine before dawnby Sandrine Collette and Archipelagosby Hélène Gaudy.
Jacarandaby the Franco-Rwandan Gaël Faye (published by Grasset) and Hourisby Franco-Algerian Kamel Daoud (editions Gallimard), were favorites at this stage. Madelaine before dawnby Sandrine Collette (editions JC Lattès) and Archipelagosby Hélène Gaudy (Éditions de L’Olivier), have therefore been added to the list.
Sometimes very competitive selections
In 2023, to crown Watch over herby Jean-Baptiste Andrea, as in 2022 to elect Live fastby Brigitte Giraud, the jury had to resort to the maximum of 14 rounds provided for in the statutes at the end.
