“This nonsense is pure fiction that sensationalizes lies that have long been debunked.” With these words, Donald Trump approved the film through his spokesman Steven Cheung The Apprentice (2024) off. The biography premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last May and can finally be seen by the general public in the Netherlands this week. Will the film influence the outcome of the US elections next month?
Prosecutor
Set in 1970s America, the film centers on Trump’s relationship with Cohn, who served as chief adviser to Senator Joseph McCarthy during the Army-McCarthy hearings. Cohn came into the spotlight as a prosecutor for the U.S. Department of Justice during the espionage trial of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, which led to their execution in 1953.
Sebastian Stan
The role of Trump is played by Sebastian Stan, who we know as the Winter Soldier in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021). He will soon also star (unrecognizably) in a thriller A Different Man (2024). Besides Stan, the other roles are for Succession star Jeremy Strong, Bodies Bodies Bodies actress Maria Bakalova and Tenet actor Martin Donovan.
Can be seen from this week
The Apprentice runs from next Thursday October 24 at the cinema. For a complete overview of all the new films hitting the silver screen this week, go here.
