A few weeks before the American presidential election, the issue of illegal immigration is occupying the electoral campaign. France Télévisions went to Arizona.
Along the Mexican border in the United States, a police officer follows a car in which there is probably a smuggler and several illegal migrants. The suspect vehicle was spotted a few hours earlier. Inside, an American woman whose speech is well practiced. She does not know the migrants, but picked them up a few kilometers from the border. She was paid by the cartels to bring them back to the United States. Illegal migrants will likely be sent back to Mexico.
No issue divides Americans more than the question of immigration. The theme is exacerbated during the election campaign. Tyler Klump, an Arizona rancher whose land lies along the border, believes only Donald Trump can solve the country’s illegal immigration problem. “They would catch migrants and send them home immediately”he assures. Conversely, associations come to the aid of these migrants, sometimes abandoned by the side of the road by smugglers.
