The Indonesian government asked Apple to block the Temu application from the App Store application store. The Chinese application Temu is a buying and selling application for products from China.
The Indonesian government’s aim in asking Apple to block Temu from the application store is to protect small and medium businesses or MSMEs in Indonesia.
Quoting Apple Insider, Monday (14/10/2024), in a short time, Temu has become a major force in e-commerce because of its cheap inventory.
However, in Indonesia’s case, the country is trying to take action to get people to shop on the app. The Indonesian government has asked Apple and Google to block access to the Temu application, so that internet users cannot download it.
This request was made by a number of ministers as a preventive measure to protect MSMEs. This process is being carried out even though no transactions have been recorded through this application.
Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, previously said that unhealthy competition would occur if the Temu application continued to operate in Indonesia.
“We are not here to protect e-commerce but we protect small and medium businesses. There are millions we have to protect,” said Budi Arie Setiadi.
