Previously, TikTok came up with a new social initiative to ensure the digital space remained safe and comfortable for users in the 2024 regional elections.
TikTok is collaborating with the Ministry of Communication and Information to prevent misinformation with several programs before the 2024 regional elections take place.
Through the TikTok Goes to Campus program, the TikTok platform seeks to invite the younger generation to play an active role in fighting misinformation and maintaining a healthy social media ecosystem.
“As the 2024 election gets closer, the spread of hoaxes is predicted to become even more massive. “This could damage public trust in the democratic process,” said Hokky Situngkir, Director General of Information Applications, Ministry of Communication and Information at a press conference held in Jakarta, Wednesday (16/10/2024).
Creating a Safe Space in the TikTok Application
For this reason, TikTok emphasizes the importance of security and comfort in creating creative work. The short video platform has also released a short community guide and code of ethics that applies to all users.
In addition, TikTok provides a special Reporting Button feature for content that has the potential to contain misinformation related to the 2024 Regional Election, in order to prevent the spread of false information that could disrupt the democratic process.
Tiktok also established an Election Guide Center which functions as a trusted source regarding the Pilkada.
This feature is expected to make it easier for the public to filter out fake news and ensure that the information they consume comes from valid sources.
Education and Collaboration Through the TikTok Goes to Campus Program
One of TikTok’s flagship initiatives is the #Take Care of Each Other workshop and the TikTok Goes to Campus program.
In this program, the short video platform involves more than 500 students from various campuses to receive special education on how to recognize and report hoaxes.
These students are then tasked with spreading education to their friends about the dangers of misinformation.
