Liputan6.com, Jakarta – AMD and Intel, two tech giants that usually compete fiercely, have now joined forces in a new x86 ecosystem advisory group.
This step aims to strengthen the dominance of the x86 architecture amidst the onslaught of RAM-based processors from Qualcomm, which have recently become increasingly popular.
This coalition has attracted great attention because Intel and AMD are known as rivals in producing the best processors in the world.
Now, AMD and Intel are working together to shape the future of computing with a competitive focus on x86 architecture compatibility and consistency.
As is known, x86 is a microprocessor architecture that has been the foundation of modern computing for the last 50 years and Intel and AMD are the two main leaders producing x86-based processors today.
However, with the continued development of ARM–used by Qualcomm in PCs and Apple in its latest Mac products–Intel and AMD see a serious threat.
Why is Qualcomm a Threat?
Qualcomm, originally known in the mobile market, has now brought its ARM-based chipset innovation to the PC world, and launched the Snapdragon X Elite and Copilot+ laptops.
According to some projections, ARM will control 40 percent of the laptop market by 2029, with 20 percent of sales next year.
This is a figure that cannot be ignored by Intel and AMD, considering that currently the majority of desktop and laptop computers use x86-based processors.
As ARM’s dominance continues to increase, competition between these two chipset architectures will continue to heat up, offering consumers a wider choice.
