This November 1 and 2, the Day of the Dead is celebrated, a Mexican tradition dedicated to honoring those who have passed away. On this occasion, families come together to create altars in memory of their loved ones.
However, for many workers, these dates are also generate uncertainty regarding your workers’ compensation. With the arrival of November 1 and 2, it is important to understand how the Federal Labor Law (LFT) applies on these occasions.
According to the Federal Labor Law, November 1 and 2 is not a mandatory day of rest. Therefore, workers will continue with their activities as normal.
This means that those who work on those days will receive only your base salary and will not be paid double.
Will there be classes next November 1 and 2?
Despite the importance of these dates in Mexico, the calendar of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) determines that kindergarten, primary and secondary students must attend classes on Friday, November 1.
This is because, according to SEP regulations, the school year will continue as usual. However, November 2, falling on a Saturday, will give families the opportunity to come together and celebrate, as there will be no classes for basic education students.
This day becomes an ideal occasion for communities to perform their rituals and honor the memory of their loved ones.
