On docudrama Testament: The Story of Moses (2024) Netflix has got a taste of the Bible. The streaming service is now announcing Mary (2024) a brand new feature film about Mary and the birth of Jesus. Based on the first images, Netflix reveals the release date.
Birth of Jesus
Through the eyes of Mary, the biblical epic tells the story of one of history’s most transformative figures and the remarkable journey that led to the birth of Jesus. Chosen to give birth to the Messiah, Mary (Noa Cohen) is shunned after a miraculous conception and forced into hiding.
When King Herod (Anthony Hopkins) orders a murderous hunt for her newborn baby, Mary and Joseph (Ido Tako) go on the run – bound by faith and driven by courage – to save his life at all costs.
Well researched
The costume drama is directed by DJ Caruso, who previously Disturbia (2007) made. In addition to Hopkins, who also recently put on costume for the gladiator series Those About to Die (2024– )the other roles include Noa Cohen as Mary, Ido Tako as Joseph and Stephanie Nur as Salome.
Netflix emphasizes that the makers consulted extensively with religious scholars and leaders to properly capture the historical elements of the story and to focus on the experience of Mary of Nazareth.
