La France insoumise plans to invest Lucie Castets, the New Popular Front candidate for Matignon, in Isère where a partial legislative election will be held after the resignation of LFI deputy Hugo Prevost, Manuel Bompard announced on Monday October 14 on LCP. “It’s part of the scenarios. We discuss it with her »declared the LFI coordinator.
On Wednesday, the deputy for the first constituency of Isère Hugo Prevost, 25, announced his resignation after accusations of sexual violence against him. He was also excluded from La France insoumise and the parliamentary group of the radical left movement.
This constituency having been allocated to LFI as part of the NFP agreement, the Insoumis wish to present a candidate there during the by-election – which should take place within three months. And this candidate, if elected, will have to sit with the LFI parliamentary group in the Assembly, which currently has 71 elected officials, Manuel Bompard insisted on Monday.
“It’s not a foregone conclusion”
A point which should slow down the 37-year-old senior civil servant, who emerged within the NFP as a figure for Matignon because she comes from civil society and is not affiliated with a political party.
“Everyone wants her to be a candidate in Isère, including her. But the question is in which group she sits… It’s not a foregone conclusion but it’s doable”said a rebellious executive on Monday.
In the last legislative elections, Hugo Prevost was elected in a triangular election with only 1,300 votes ahead of the Macronist candidate, former minister Olivier Véran.
