A person asked Cofepris to know the information on counterfeit medicines between 2018 and August 2024 and the 10 medicines with the most counterfeit complaints. The Commission did not respond to the request, so the person filed an appeal for review with the Inai. It was revealed that during the complaint processing, Cofepris provided some of the information about the complaints.
This Institute confirmed that Cofepris has previously provided information on the marketing of fake medicines for the treatment of diseases such as cancer, arthritis, glaucoma and arteriosclerosis in a case analyzed by the presentation of Commissioner Blanca Lilia Ibarra Cadena.
The Inai Plenary determined that Cofepris must exhaustively search for the requested information and deliver it.
“This matter shows us the importance of the right to know for the enjoyment and enjoyment of the right to health, so that people who require medications know both those that are frequently falsified and those that have the most complaints before Cofepris, which is the authority on the matter”said Commissioner Ibarra Cadena when presenting the case before the Plenary.
The Commissioner added that the requested information will help people, before purchasing medications, know which ones to use. You have to be more careful to avoid purchasing those that are fake and that can affect your health..
The Inai Plenary unanimously ordered Cofepris to respond to the request for information referred to and deliver it to the requesting person.
