Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Recently China detained employees from Taiwan who worked at the world’s largest iPhone manufacturing facility, Foxconn. The Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou is known to produce around 80 percent of the world’s iPhones.
Quoting TechTimesMonday (14/10/2024), the detention of these employees attracted many comments, related to the worsening relations between China and Apple.
This detention could also impact Apple, which relies on Foxconn and China for iPhone production.
Based on a report by The Wall Street Journal, four employees at the iPhone factory (Foxconn China) were detained by local authorities. The reason for his detention is unclear but Taiwanese officials are concerned about the situation.
Taiwanese officials revealed that the employee detained in China was accused of committing a breach of trust. So far the details of the case are still sketchy, but it is believed to make businesses and investors worried about operational risks in China.
Moreover, the Taiwan Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) called these detentions strange and worried that these steps could deal a devastating blow to investor confidence in China. So far there has been no financial loss due to this incident.
