The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday October 11 to the Japanese organization Nihon Hidankyo.
The jury explains that it chose to reward “ this popular movement of survivors of the atomic bomb of Hiroshima and Nagasaki » pour “his efforts to achieve a world without nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through testimony that nuclear weapons should never be used again.”
In 2023, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to activist and journalist Narges Mohammadi, imprisoned by the Iranian regime since 2021, for “her fight against the oppression of women in Iran”.
The Nobel Peace Prize is the penultimate in the series for the year 2024, after the awards granted since the start of the week for medicine, physics, chemistry and literature. The latest award, the Nobel Prize for Economics, will be announced on Monday October 14.
