Gustavo Alarcón Herrera has assumed the position of mayor of Chilpancingo after the Congress of Guerrero swore him in this Thursday.
This happens after the tragic murder and beheading of Alejandro Arcos Catalán, the elected mayor, last Sunday, October 6.
In the session, an operation led by the State Police was deployed outside the local Congress.
Until Wednesday night there was uncertainty if Alarcón Herrera would take office and when it would happen. To begin with, because the Chilpancingo council had not notified Congress of the mayor’s absence.
The other reason is that since Wednesday morning it was known that the PRD leadership does not agree with Alarcón Herrera assuming the mayor’s office because it is not their militancy nor was it their proposal.
One more reason is that the idea of Sandra Solís Peralta assuming the mayorship of the city of Arcos Catalán was spread on social networks and in opinion columns.
Alarcón Herrera will take office in the worst crisis of violence that the capital has ever experienced.
