The deputy Anabell Ávalos (PRI) said that Ifigenia Martínez “was a more than exceptional woman, she was a state woman; “represents the beginning and culmination of women’s historic struggle for access to public life in Mexico.”

The deputy Carlos Alberto Puente (PVEM) said that talking about Mrs. Ifigenia Martínez“is talking about a figure of the greatest importance in the contemporary history of Mexico.”

And she stressed that she was a pioneer in many areas, such as being the first Mexican woman to obtain a master’s degree from Harvard University, in the United States.
“A woman who was trained to contribute to this country and open the gap for many women, who today we see made a reality in the figure of our president, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum, Mrs. Ifigenia along with other prominent women of this country, opened step so that today women have a different destiny,” she said.
For its part, Representative Guadalupe Murguía (PAN) referred to the role that teacher Ifigenia Martínez played during the student movement of 1968, when she worked as an academic at UNAM.
“At the time, he faced with enormous dignity one of the darkest moments of our nation, when in 1968 there was an attack on university autonomy and the repression of students. “Her enormous conviction for the defense of the university led her to always rely on her capacity for coordination, dialogue and great integrity.”he said.
“Today we honor a woman with an outstanding career and who has left her influence in different areas of national endeavor, teacher Ifigenia Martínez becomes a lasting example for this and future generations, for men and, of course, also for women, for their effort and contribution to today’s Mexico, let us rescue their vocation for dialogue and search for agreements,” she said.
For her part, the deputy Ivonne Ortega (MC) said that teacher Martínez always fought to have a country of equals“let us make a commitment to her to build bridges, and that this legislature does not bury the causes for which she fought all her life, to honor her is to listen to her, may she rest in peace.”
The coordinator of the PT, Reginaldo Sandoval, highlighted the teacher’s career and her ability to seek consensus in her political life.
“One of the pioneering women of public life in Mexico is leaving, but her ideals, her legislative achievements, her political decisions and her congruence will remain forever. Ifigenia always sought consensus to reach agreements, unite wills and social peace. through dialogue, we will faithfully follow their example,” he said.
