The coordinator of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, Ricardo Monrealreported that next week the process to fill the vacancy of the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies will begin, after the death of Ifigenia Martínezwho held that position and died Saturday night.
In an interview, he clarified that, according to the Organic Law of the San Lázaro legislative precinct, Vice President Sergio Gutiérrez Luna will immediately assume the functions of president.
He explained that, later, a selection process will be carried out in the plenary session, but it will be the Morena bench that will present the candidates.
He assured that within the parliamentary group “the majority of the colleagues believe that the vice president, Sergio, can occupy his role,” however, he explained that he will call a plenary session so that the deputies can resolve the issue together, in the that would also contend Olga Sánchez Cordero and Dolores Padierna.
“The vice president will act as president until we make a decision in the majority group, it must be a decision that unites us,” he stated.
