Ricardo Monreal announced tonight the death of Ifigenia Martínez, president of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies, at the age of 94. Martínez was a prominent Mexican politician, economist, professor and diplomat, linked to the Morena party.
Through your account on X, Monreal expressed his sadness over the death of the teacher, news that was confirmed by the family.
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum also mourned the loss and sent her support to the family, remembering that on June 2 he had voted for Martínez, whom he described as a woman of convictions.
For her part, Nohemí Luna, PAN coordinator in Lázaro, shared her regret over Martínez’s departure on her social networks, highlighting her as an influential politician and academic.
Iphigenia Martha Martínez y Hernández was a pioneer in opening spaces for women in politics and academiabeing the first Mexican woman to obtain a doctorate in economics at Harvard.
